About the role:


Swiss International School in Qatar is seeking an outstanding and forward-

thinking Secondary School English Language and Literature Teacher for

Academic Year 2024-2025. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to

be part of SISQ.


Core Responsibilities:


It is a mandatory requirement that all SISQ staff adhere to the Student Safeguarding and Child protection Policy.

  • It is expected that the candidate would foster effective teaching, learning and management of resources and be a model of professional practice in the PHE Department.


General responsibilities:


As the Secondary School PHE Teacher, you will be required to:


  • Ensure that each child makes the maximum possible progress, feels safe and enjoys their time at school.

  • Be a role model for the children in the values of kindness, good manners and wisdom, work ethic and high standards.

  • Have a clear understanding of the needs of all students, including those with SEN, EAL or disabilities and to use distinctive teaching approaches to extend and support all children.

  • Encourage inquiry in learning and concept-based instruction.

  • Use varied assessments in class to reflect students’ learning.

  • Take an active role in promoting the sports programme within the school using displays, school website, trips, assemblies, internal and external competitions.

  • Positively contribute to the effective and efficient running of the PHE department.

  • Promote high standards in the use of English as the language of instruction.

  • Follow all agreed school policies in the staff handbooks.

  • Attend meetings and school events, which may take place in the evenings or weekends as required.

  • Report to parents through informal and formal meetings, anecdotal records, incident report, reflection, feedback and conferences.

  • Ensure the safe use of resources throughout your PHE lessons.

  • Ensure that the welfare of the students in your care is of number one priority.

  • Be dedicated to pastoral care, including the role as a homeroom tutor, if required.

  • Do any reasonable duties as requested by the school.



Professional management of self, planning and reflection:


  • Work collaboratively with all SISQ staff; able to demonstrate your collaborative planning and reflection, level weekly planning, involvement in the Secondary / School/Whole School meetings, School events etc.

  • Ensure thorough planning, informed delivery, assessment of the IB programs of Study, Scope and Sequence, Areas of Inquiry and target setting are in accordance with the IBO requirements so as to facilitate progression in learning.

  • Weekly planning is available and long-term schemes of work are planned for the year.

  • Implement SISQ policies at all times.

  • Show a positive attitude in dealing with the students, parents and colleagues.

  • Promptly respond to any parent queries / concerns, escalating where required


Professional development:


  • Share your expertise or learning in your subject area and best classroom practices with your peers

  • Take part in personal development inside and outside of SISQ to develop and enhance your teaching practices and knowledge


Resources:


  • Provide a stimulating and challenging classroom environment.

  • Develop additional resources to supplement classroom materials to improve instruction and for differentiation


Pastoral Care:


  • Be responsible for the supervision of the students (drop off, after-school childcare, EA’s and all break times)

  • Celebrate students achievements 

  • Promote the IB Attitudes and Profile

  • Respond to students’ physical, mental and emotional needs in school

  • Communicate to parents through e-mail, ManageBac / iSAMS and weekly newsletters where applicable


Whole School:


  • Actively participate in all school meetings, school events and PD days

  • Promote and encourage parent involvement in the school through events and parent conferences

  • Contribute and encourage a positive atmosphere in school.


About you:


Gender required: Female


  • The successful candidate will have the following essential qualities:

  • Fluent in English.

  • Two or more years teaching MYP PHE.

  • Excellent communication and strong organisational skills.

  • Evidence of professional development and self-learning.

  • A collaborative working style with a commitment to continuous improvement.

  • To be passionate in developing the sports program at SISQ.

  • Able to coach many school teams and attend weekly evening and weekend fixtures.

  • A team player with a strong work ethic, entrepreneurial spirit and who takes a positive approach.

  • To be an inspirational teacher who knows how to support and extend each student.

  • Outstanding ICT skills, including the use of emerging technologies to promote learning.

The following qualities would be an advantage:


  • Recent IB training in PHE.

  • Experience within an international school setting.



In line with the Ministry of Educations Circular 13 requirements for this

position, the candidate must possess the following:


  • A Bachelor’s Degree in English Language & Literature

  • A teaching qualification (PGCE / QTS / Teaching Licence)

  • No more than 49 years of age in August 2024 (at the point of joining the school)
