Summary/Objective


Magellan International School (MIS) in Austin, Texas, has an opening for a Bilingual Spanish Lead Teacher (Upper Primary). This position will work in our Spanish Immersion Primary School. The teacher will create a progressive learning environment where students demonstrate critical thinking and uphold the attributes of the International Baccalaureate (IB) learner profile. The teacher will support students' academic and personal development while contributing to extracurricular and community activities.


Essential Functions:


  • Plans and teaches lessons following the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) curriculum, differentiating for individual student needs.

  • Guides students through inquiry-based exploration across transdisciplinary units of inquiry, fostering bilingual communication skills, conceptual understanding, and global awareness.

  • Works collaboratively with the teaching assistant to deliver learning experiences.

  • Provides day-to-day monitoring and support to the teaching assistant, including sharing daily program plans and discussing goals for children.

  • Attends staff and faculty meetings, supports colleagues, and collaborates with the PYP Coordinator on curriculum planning and program effectiveness.

  • Utilizes a variety of teaching strategies and technologies.

  • Participates in curriculum planning and student progress meetings with parents and the Student Support Resources Team (SSR).

  • Maintains high standards for academic performance and behavior.

  • Fosters an engaging learning environment that promotes critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.

  • Creates a Spanish immersion environment in the classroom.

  • Actively supervises students during carline, recess, breaks, and lunch.

  • Organizes educational field trips to support the curriculum.

  • Communicates professionally with parents regarding student progress, collaborates with parents of high-needs students, and establishes positive relationships with families.

  • Works with the Room Parent to plan and participate in parent activities.

  • Serves as a role model for students by dressing professionally, adhering to the school’s policy, demonstrating the importance of learning, accepting responsibility, and showing pride in the education profession.

  • Encourages students to set individual goals and maintains a safe, creative learning environment.

  • Participates in community engagement efforts & school initiatives to support the school’s growth.

  • Works collaboratively with grade-level teachers to plan engaging End-of-Unit Celebrations.

  • Support the 5th grade PYP Exhibition as a mentor every other year.

Performs other duties as assigned, which may change at any time with or without notice.


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education; or a Bachelor’s Degree in an unrelated

    field with Teacher’s Certification

  • A minimum of two years of experience teaching elementary-aged students in a

    classroom setting

  • Communicate effectively in English and Spanish, both orally and in writing.

  • Three years of experience focused on project-based learning preferred.

  • Experience integrating information technology (IT) with teaching.

  • Experience with Google Workspace, Toddle, and Apple Mac platforms preferred.

  • Knowledge of curriculum development, program evaluation, instructional strategies, classroom management, and learning assessments.

Work Environment


This job operates in a classroom environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This role requires lifting, bending, standing, and stooping. Work is

performed indoors and outdoors.

“Core” work hours:

7:45 am - 5:30 pm on Mondays

7:45 am - 3:45 pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays

7:45 am - 4:30 pm on Wednesdays

Availability during occasional nights and weekend events.


Travel


Some out-of-area travel may be expected, but is not common.
