Description of Position:


The English Teacher will work in our Primary School (K-5th Grades). Teachers are responsible for creating a progressive learning environment where students can demonstrate thoughtful and ethical behavior and ensure that the values and principles of the International Baccalaureate (IB) learner profile are at the heart of learning and relationships in the school. The Bilingual Lead Teacher will support the personal and academic development of students in the classroom and contribute to extracurricular, community, and service activities.  

 


Essential Functions:


  • Plan and teach lessons following the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP curriculum) that differentiate for individual student needs and support students.

  • Regularly meet and collaborate with the Teaching Assistant to plan activities and Units of Inquiry.

  • Use a wide range of technologies and creative teaching styles.

  • Regularly contribute to curriculum planning and development, including interdisciplinary units of work and the development of transdisciplinary skills.

  • Plan with colleagues to deliver effective team teaching when possible.

  • Attend regular curriculum planning and student progress meetings.

  • Communicate students' progress toward achieving academic character development goals.



Essential Functions As They Relate To:


Students:


  • Promote high standards and expectations for all students for academic performance and responsibility for behavior.

  • Improve student performance and results.

  • Serve as a role model for students, dressing professionally, demonstrating the importance and relevance of learning, accepting responsibility, and demonstrating pride in the education profession.

  • Ensure that the instructional programs engage the learner in tasks that require analytical and critical thinking, problem solving, and creativity. 

  • Address the range of skills and developmental needs found in the classroom

  • Encourage students to define individual goals.

  • Maintain a safe and creative environment for their students.

  • Plan educational field trips for the Unit of Inquiry.

  • Create a full Spanish immersion environment.


Faculty:


  • Support teachers and co-workers.

  • Attend all staff/ faculty meetings.

  • Meet with the Primary Years Programme Coordinator to review curriculum plans and activities and evaluate the program's effectiveness. 

  • Administration

  • Maintain records on each child's progress and development.

  • Provide day-to-day support to Teaching Assistants, substitutes, and parent volunteers, which includes sharing daily program plans and discussing goals for children.

  • Keep up-to-date records of attendance, curriculum, assessment tasks in Toddle database.

  • Monitor students at break times, lunch times, and other times as required.



Parents:


  • Communicate professionally and effectively to parents about student progress. 

  • Work with Room Parents in planning and participating activities.

  • Conduct individual parent conferences at the end of each term.

  • Establish a positive relationship with each student's family.

  • Make presentations to parents as needed.

  • Attend parent meetings when required.

  • Communicate and collaborate with parents of high needs students. 



External Community:


  • Curate local community offerings and communicate opportunities to the school community.

  • Promote the Magellan International School mission.

  • Create and maintain connections with relevant community resources.

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in English/ Literature or similar degree

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary

  • A minimum of two years' experience teaching English

  • Experience in integrating IT with teaching

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of curriculum development and program evaluation, child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment. 

  • Ability to create a stimulating classroom environment.

  • Ability to utilize the local context and environment to enhance learning.

  • Ability to work with parents. 



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience or training in the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (IB PYP).

  • Experience working with project based learning.

Work Environment:


This job operates in a professional office as well as a classroom environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. This position requires lifting, bending, standing, and stooping.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work. “Core” work hours: 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Availability during occasional night and weekend events.


Travel:

Some out-of-area travel may be expected, but is not common.


Additional Eligibility Qualifications:


A criminal history background check will be required for finalist(s) under consideration for this position, to include fingerprinting at the expense of the applicant, if no record exists for the applicant in the Texas Department of Public Services database. CPR/First Aid and Texas Food Handler Certification will also be required for any employees working with students, fees which will be paid by Magellan or reimbursed upon completion of the required training.


Work Authorization/Security Clearance:


If hired, employee will be required to complete the federal Employment Eligibility Verification form, I-9. You will be required to present acceptable and original documents to prove your identity and authorization to work in the United States. Documents need to be presented no later than the third day of employment. Failure to do so will result in loss of employment at the school.

Salary for each position is based on an individual’s teaching experience.
