About the role:


Swiss International School in Qatar is seeking an outstanding and forward-thinking PYP Coordinator and Library Educator for Academic Year 2024-25. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to be part of a team of educators that is further developing the PYP education at SISQ.


We seek an innovative and dedicated individual to fulfill the PYP Coordinator and Library Educator role. This position encompasses two key areas of responsibility: coordinating the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and overseeing the school library. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with grade-level teams, the Primary Principal, the Library assistant, and the Digital Literacy Lead to inspire and support staff and students. The ideal candidate will stay up to date with IB requirements and updates, deliver professional development (PD) to staff, coordinate celebrations of learning, and regularly engage parents through coffee mornings.

 

Core Responsibilities:


It is a mandatory requirement that all SISQ staff adhere to the SISQ Safeguarding and Child protection Policy.

To foster effective teaching, learning and management of resources and be a model of professional practice in the Primary School.

 

Position Overview:


We seek an innovative and dedicated individual to fulfill the PYP Coordinator and Library Educator role. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with grade-level teams, the Primary Principal, the Library assistant, and the Digital Literacy Lead to inspire and support staff and students. The ideal candidate will stay up to date with IB requirements and updates, deliver professional development (PD) to staff, coordinate celebrations of learning, and regularly engage parents through coffee mornings.


Responsibilities:

PYP Coordinator:



  • Coordinate the implementation and development of the Primary Years Programme (PYP) in accordance with IB standards.

  • Conduct weekly grade-level team meetings to facilitate collaboration, provide guidance, and ensure alignment with the PYP framework.

  • Meet regularly with the Primary Principal to discuss PYP-related matters, share updates, and seek guidance on program enhancements.

  • Keep staff informed of IB requirements, updates, and best practices through regular communication channels.

  • Deliver professional development sessions to support staff in understanding and implementing the PYP.

  • Coordinate celebrations of learning and exhibitions to showcase student achievements and promote the PYP philosophy.

  • Collaborate with teachers to design and implement innovative and engaging instructional strategies that align with the PYP framework.

  • Foster a culture of inquiry, critical thinking, and reflective practice among staff and students.

  • Ensure the PYP documentation and administrative requirements are maintained accurately and efficiently.


Library Educator:


  • Oversee the school library, including the collection development, cataloguing, and maintenance of resources.

  • Collaborate with the Library assistant to support day-to-day library operations and provide guidance and support as needed.

  • Work closely with the Digital literacy Lead to integrate digital literacy skills and resources into the library program.

  • Develop and implement innovative and engaging library programs and initiatives that inspire a love for reading and inquiry.

  • Foster a supportive and inclusive library environment that promotes student learning, curiosity, and exploration.

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to design and deliver library lessons that align with curricular objectives and support information literacy skills.

  • Stay up to date with current trends and best practices in library and information science.

  • Organise regular coffee mornings and other parent engagement initiatives to keep parents informed about library programs, resources, and reading initiatives.

 

Professional management of self, planning and reflection:


  • Work collaboratively with all SISQ staff; able to demonstrate your collaborative planning and reflection, level weekly planning, involvement in the Primary School/Whole School meetings, School events etc.

  • Ensure thorough planning, informed delivery, assessment of the IB programs of Study, Scope and Sequence, Areas of Inquiry and target setting are in accordance with the IBO requirements so as to facilitate progression in learning.

  • Weekly planning is available and long-term schemes of work are planned for the year.

  • Implement SISQ policies at all times.

  • Show a positive attitude in dealing with the students, parents and colleagues.

  • Promptly respond to any parent queries / concerns, escalating where required

 

Professional development:


  • Share your expertise or learning in your subject area and best practices with your peers

  • Take part in personal development inside and outside of SISQ to develop and enhance your teaching practices and knowledge

Resources:


  • Provide a stimulating and challenging classroom environment with displays that reflect the students’ learning.

  • Develop additional resources to supplement classroom materials to improve instruction and for differentiation


Pastoral Care:


  • Celebrate students' achievements 

  • Promote the IB Attitudes and Profile

  • Respond to students’ physical, mental and emotional needs in school

  • Communicate to parents through e-mail, Toddle  and weekly newsletters where applicable

  • Actively participate in all school meetings, school events and PD days

  • Promote and encourage parent involvement in the school through events and parent conferences

  • Contribute and encourage a positive atmosphere in school.

  • Experience within an international school setting

In line with the Ministry of Education's Circular 13 requirements for this position, the candidate must possess the following:


  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field (Master's degree preferred).

  • A teaching qualification (PGCE / QTS / Teaching Licence)

  • No more than 49 years of age in August 2023 (at the point of joining the school)

  • Experience and understanding of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) framework

  • Familiarity with library and information science principles, including resource management and cataloguing (Follet and Title Wave)

  • Strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including teachers, administrators, students, and parents

  • Innovative and creative mindset with a passion for inspiring staff and students

  • Up-to-date knowledge of educational technology tools and digital literacy skills
