The Mahindra United World College of India (MUWCI) wishes to appoint a Deputy Head of College. Applications for this position will be accepted till 6th February 2026.The Deputy Head of College will be responsible for the implementation and evaluation of the overall academic and non-academic programmes for all students. Their primary role is to achieve academic excellence and student development objectives by working collaboratively to direct and nurture all college faculty and staff members. They will evaluate instructional programmes and teaching effectiveness and ensure an environment conducive to learning.


The Head of Student Life has full oversight of the pastoral care and residential life of the students, reporting to the Deputy Head of College. The Head of Student Life leads the work of the college in promoting the mission and values of UWC educational model with students beyond the classroom, providing strategic direction and ensuring that every student is supported to allow them to flourish in their time here.  The objectives of this role is to cultivate a caring and supportive campus environment and to give students opportunities to learn through challenging and meaningful experiences which demand personal initiative, self-discipline and responsibility.

 

The Head of Student Life plays a significant role in ensuring the safeguarding and wellbeing of all our students and must remain abreast of developments in post-16 schooling and pastoral care in particular, suggesting changes to current practice as necessary. The job would suit an individual who is committed to experiential education, providing opportunities for student responsibility, and developing high standards and a commitment to UWC ideals. It would suit a team player with strong organisational skills, a confident and positive rapport with students, and the ability to lead a team of dedicated faculty. The role also includes very close work with the Wellbeing Psychologist. The Head of Student Life must have adequate knowledge and insight into all applicable safeguarding and child protection policies.

 

The position includes a significantly reduced teaching load appropriate to the requirement of the role. The office holder would be expected to teach two classes (SL or HL) and from the list of IB subjects offered at the College. Key Responsibilities

 

  1. Residential Life & Student Counseling


  • Pastoral Leadership: Oversee day-to-day psycho-social pastoral care and behavior management.

  • Team Coordination: Convene and chair weekly Residential Life Team meetings and coordinate closely with Wada Parents regarding house/Wada issues.

  • Student Support: Oversee the work of the Mindfulness and Wellbeing Counselor and support Wada Parents when students require counseling.

  • Curriculum Implementation: Implement "change of pace" days focusing on stress management, sleep, study skills, and conflict resolution.

  • Social-Emotional Learning: Identify personal, social, and health education needs, overseeing Advisor and Wada meeting agendas to create opportunities for social-emotional learning.

  • Parent Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for parents regarding general well-being, personal issues, and disciplinary matters.

 

  1. Health, Safety and Security

 

  • Medical Liaison: Collaborate with the College Doctor and Health Care Team regarding the physical and mental health of students.

  • Analysis: Establish systems for the collection and analysis of student well-being data, including attendance and physical/mental health metrics.

  • Safety Protocols: Define and monitor guidelines for check-in, noise, and movement policies.

  • Off-Campus Safety: Monitor health and safety policies regarding off-campus activities, outdoor education, project weeks, travel weeks, and weekend excursions.

  • Code of Conduct: Monitor adherence to the UWC Code of Conduct and lead investigations into student disciplinary matters alongside the Disciplinary Hearing Committee.

 

3. Process Planning, Compliance & Operations

 

  • Policy Management: Review and update residential life handbooks, student information forms, and college policies to establish clear rules and guidelines.

  • Allocation Systems: Manage the process for room allocations and advisor allocations.

  • Reporting: Complete the Annual Mental Health Report and contribute to the construction of the Annual Key Dates and calendar.

  • Maintenance: Resolve maintenance issues (electrical, laundry, plumbing) by logging complaints and ensuring follow-up.

  • Committee Leadership: Chair Res-Life committee meetings and attend Health & Safety, Fee Revision, Faculty, and Leadership meetings.

 

  1. Student Pre-Arrival & Orientation

 

  • Logistics: Coordinate student arrivals and departures for each semester and ensure representatives meet students at airports/stations.

  • Onboarding: Plan and coordinate orientation week with the Leadership Team, ensuring students are aware of the UWC Guiding Principles and Code of Conduct.

  • Admissions: Work with the Admissions Office to validate pre-arrival documentation and identify new students requiring specific long-term support.

 

  1. Faculty Induction

 

  • Training: Coordinate the induction program in liaison with the Deputy Head of College and Head of Academics.

  • Duty of Care: Run regular sessions to ensure all faculty and staff are aware of their responsibilities regarding the College’s duty of care to students.

Job Specifications

 

Education & Experience

 

  • Education: Minimum Master’s Degree (any field, though a background in Psychology is preferred).

  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years in administrative roles.

  • Knowledge: Familiarity with post-16 schooling and developments in pastoral care.

 

Key Skills & Competencies

 

  • Curriculum Development: Ability to design and update learning modules (specifically MUWCI Core) utilizing solutionary frameworks.

  • Leadership: People management and leadership skills.

  • Conflict Resolution: Strong conflict management capabilities.

  • Operational: Budgeting, basic accounting, and organizing/multi-tasking skills.
