Position summary:


Position Title: Head of IB (Project Coordinator)

Reports to: Headmaster

Direct Reports: Coordinators, Grade Mentors and teaching staff

Classification: Member of Executive Team

Position purpose:


Providing strategic leadership and oversight of all IB Programmes (PYP, MYP, DP), ensuring curriculum alignment, compliance with IB standards and readiness for authorisation and evaluation. The role supports high-quality teaching and learning through targeted IB training, mentoring, and professional development for Programme Coordinators, teaching and non - teaching staff. It oversees assessment practices, policy implementation, and continuous improvement of IB pedagogy, while promoting student engagement, facilitating community understanding of the IB philosophy, and collaborating with senior leadership to drive long-term development and excellence across all IB programmes. As the educational leader for IB Programmes, the Head of IB will:


  • Uphold and promote the IB philosophy in alignment with the College’s mission, vision, and values.

  • Foster a culture of inquiry, international-mindedness, academic excellence, and collaboration across all IB Programmes.

  • Work closely with the Headmaster, Programme Coordinators, staff, students, and the wider community to ensure continuous improvement and high-quality implementation of PYP, MYP, and DP.


Key responsibilities:


Strategic and Educational Leadership: 


  • Provide visionary leadership for the IB Programmes (PYP, MYP, DP) in alignment with Al Zahra College’s mission, vision, and Islamic values.

  • Lead the implementation, ongoing review, evaluation, and authorisation requirements for all IB Programmes.

  • Ensure the development and delivery of a unified, high-quality curriculum aligned with IB standards, compliant with NESA requirements, and best pedagogical practice.

  • Monitor and evaluate teaching and learning to ensure high academic standards, strong student progress, and effective inquiry-based learning.

  • Mentor, coach and support Programme Coordinators and teaching teams to achieve academic, pastoral, and wellbeing goals.

  • Oversee the implementation of assessment frameworks—IB, NAPLAN, PAT, and internal measures—and use data to inform teaching and improve student outcomes.

  • Promote a culture of excellence, continuous improvement, innovation, and international- mindedness across all IB Programmes.


Islamic and Community Leadership: 


  • Embed Islamic values and character development within the learning environment across

  • all IB Programmes.

  • Strengthen respectful and collaborative partnerships with parents, the Islamic community,

  • and relevant external organisations.

  • Support the spiritual development and ethical character of students and staff. 


Governance and Compliance:


  • Ensure compliance with IB Standards and Practices, NESA requirements, Child Safety Standards and WHS obligations

  • Provide regular reports to the Headmaster and Governing Council on IB programme performance, strategic progress, and compliance matters.

  • Foster accountability among staff and students to uphold the College’s expectations and contribute to programme success.

  • Oversee the implementation and review of IB-related policies

  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold the integrity and reputation of the College.


Staff Leadership and Professional Development:


  • Lead the induction, mentoring, appraisal, and ongoing professional learning of IB staff.

  • Cultivate a positive, collaborative, and high-performing professional culture.

  • Ensure effective communication, delegation, and collaboration between Programme

  • Coordinators, teachers, and support staff.

  • Support staff participation in IB workshops, and other targeted professional development

  • opportunities.


Operational and Resource Management:


  • Work with the Headmaster, Programme Coordinators and Administration Manager to oversee budgeting, resource allocation, and procurement for IB Programme needs.

  • Ensure organisational systems related to teaching and learning run effectively, including timetabling, assessment calendars, excursions/incursions, and co-curricular programmes.

  • Support enrolment processes, student transitions between IB Programmes, and whole - school operational planning in coordination with leadership teams.


Community Engagement and Communication:


  • Serve as a key representative of the College’s IB Programmes to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ensure clear, timely, and effective communication with staff, students, and families regarding IB expectations, curriculum, assessment, and events.

  • Oversee the preparation of IB curriculum guides, digital learning content, policy documents, and contributions to the College’s Annual Report.


Essential Criteria:


  • Demonstrated senior leadership experience in an IB school.

  • Strong expertise in Preschool to Year 12 education, and IB frameworks (PYP, MYP, DP).

  • Proven capacity to lead teams, manage change, and foster an inclusive, high-quality learning environment.

  • Commitment to Islamic values and the mission and philosophy of Al Zahra College.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, analytical, and strategic planning skills.

  • Active IBEN educator, especially workshop leader experience across PYP, MYP and DP.


Desirable Attributes:


  • Postgraduate qualifications in Educational Leadership or related fields. 

  • Experience leading IB authorisation, evaluation, or accreditation processes. 

  • Strong organisational, financial and resource management skills.

Remuneration:


$94,155 – $133,009 per annum (FTE 1.0) in accordance with the Independent Schools

(Teachers) Cooperative Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2025. The commencing salary will be

determined based on recognised prior teaching service.
