Summary/Objective:
Magellan International School in Austin, Texas, is seeking an English Teacher to work at the Primary School. The teacher will create a progressive learning environment where students demonstrate critical thinking and uphold the attributes of the International Baccalaureate (IB) learner profile. The teacher will support students' academic and personal development while
contributing to extracurricular and community activities.
Essential Functions:
Plans and teaches lessons following the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) curricula, differentiating for individual student needs.
Utilizes a variety of teaching strategies and technologies.
Participates in curriculum planning and student progress meetings.
Maintains high standards for academic performance and behavior.
Maintains up-to-date records of student progress, attendance, grades, and assessments.
Fosters an engaging learning environment that promotes critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.
Actively supervises students during carline, breaks and lunch.
Attends educational field trips to support the curriculum.
Communicates professionally with parents about student progress, collaborate with parents of high-needs students, and establish positive relationships with families.
Serves as a role model for students by dressing professionally, demonstrating the importance of learning, accepting responsibility, and showing pride in the education profession.
Encourages students to set individual goals and maintains a safe, creative learning environment.
Contributes to curriculum planning and development, including interdisciplinary units and transdisciplinary skills, and plans with colleagues to deliver effective team teaching.
Regularly build upon students’ prior knowledge of grammar, vocabulary, word usage, and writing mechanics, covering: reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
Introduces & defines various genres of literature including writing exercises & reading selections.
Attends staff/faculty meetings, supports colleagues, and collaborates with the PYP Coordinator on curriculum planning and program effectiveness.
Participates in community engagement efforts & school initiatives to support the school’s growth
Promotes the school’s mission and builds relationships with community partners.
Works collaboratively with Spanish grade teachers to plan engaging “End of the Unit Celebrations”.
Support the 5th grade PYP Exhibition as a mentor every other year.
Other Duties:
Performs other duties as assigned, which may change at any time with or without notice.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in English, Literature, Education or related field
Communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing
A minimum of 2 years of experience teaching English to elementary school age students
Experience or training in the IB PYP preferred
Knowledge of curriculum development, program evaluation, instructional strategies, classroom management, and learning assessments
Experience integrating information technology (IT) with teaching
Experience with Google Workspace, Toddle, and Apple Mac platforms preferred

Work Environment
This job operates in a classroom environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This role requires lifting, bending, standing, and stooping. Work is
performed indoors and outdoors.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
“Core” work hours: 8:15 am to 4:15 pm from Tuesdays to Fridays and 8:15 am to 5:30
pm on Mondays. Availability during occasional nights and weekend events.
Travel
Some out-of-area travel may be expected, but is not common.

A criminal history background check will be required for finalist(s) under consideration for this position.
