Description of Position:


The IB MYP English Teacher is responsible for delivering the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) English Language and Literature curriculum. This role involves creating engaging, student-centered learning experiences that foster critical thinking, creativity, and a deep appreciation for language and literature. The teacher will collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement effective instructional strategies and contribute to the holistic development of students.


Key Responsibilities:


Curriculum Delivery:


  • Plan and deliver lessons aligned with the IB MYP English Language and Literature curriculum, ensuring adherence to IB

    standards and practices.

  • Develop and update unit plans and related documents to reflect current best practices and student needs.

  • Incorporate a variety of teaching strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.


Student Engagement and Support:


  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages active student participation and intellectual curiosity.

  • Monitor and assess student progress, providing timely and constructive feedback to support their academic growth.

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the varying needs of students, including those requiring additional support or enrichment.


Collaboration and Professional Development:


  • Work collaboratively with department members and other faculty to develop and share effective teaching practices.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with educational trends and IB methodologies.

  • Contribute to departmental tasks such as policy development, common assessments, and curriculum evaluation.


Extracurricular Involvement:


  • Organize and lead at least one extracurricular activity or enrichment program to enhance the student experience.

  • Support students in IB core components, including the MYP

  • Personal Project, as necessary.


Administrative Duties:


  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and other required documentation.

  • Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and other stakeholders regarding student progress and concerns.

  • Adhere to school policies and procedures, contributing to the overall mission and vision of the institution.


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.

  • Valid teaching certification/license appropriate for the teaching assignment.

  • Minimum of two years of teaching experience, preferably within the IB MYP framework.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the IB philosophy and commitment to student-centered learning.

  • Proficiency in integrating technology into the classroom to enhance learning outcomes.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.

  • Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work with a diverse student population.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience teaching in an international or multicultural setting.

  • IB Professional Development training in English Language and Literature.

  • Familiarity with online and hybrid teaching methodologies.


Working Conditions:


  • Full-time position with teaching responsibilities of approximately 20 periods in a 30-period week.

  • Participation in school events, meetings, and professional development sessions as required.

  • Involvement in extracurricular activities, which may include evenings and weekends.

Teaching and Learning:


  • Teach and engage students in integrated humanities subjects, including economics, geography, history, and other social sciences.

  • Enhance conceptual learning and provide opportunities for students to develop skills in analysis, critical thinking, and research.


Experiential Learning:


  • Organize and facilitate experiential learning opportunities, such as field trips and project-based learning activities, to deepen students' understanding of humanities and social studies concepts.

  • Assessment and Feedback:

  • Create and maintain assessment strategies that meet MYP objectives, providing timely and constructive feedback to students to support their academic growth.


Professional Development:


  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay updated with the latest educational practices and IB requirements.

  • Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and the wider school community to support student learning and well-being..



Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field (Master's degree preferred).

  • Teaching certification/license (MYP certification is an asset).

  • Prior experience teaching mathematics at the middle years level (MYP experience preferred).

  • Strong knowledge of the MYP framework and inquiry-based teaching practices.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • Fluency in English (additional languages such as French or Arabic is a plus).
