SEK Budapest International School is seeking an International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme Coordinator.


Job description and expectations:


The IBDP Coordinator is a key leadership role in the implementation and development of the IB Diploma Programme at SEK Budapest International School. The ideal coordinator requires excellent knowledge of IB regulations and procedures and is responsible for communicating information to all members of the school community, administering all internal and external assessments and acting as the primary point of contact between the school and the IB.


The following illustrate the most significant aspects of this role:


  • Guiding the school community - ensure that the community (students, parents and teachers) understand the DP’s overall philosophy, including available course selection choices, and importance of appropriate balance, course load, and suitability for entry into higher education.

  • Programme implementation and development - ensuring that the school embraces and is able to demonstrate the IB’s mission statement and its learner profile while fostering the spirit of an international education. Supporting the head of the school in ensuring that school policies support the ongoing development of the DP and that excellent teachers are recruited and retained.

  • Part of the pedagogical leadership team - possess a clear and unified approach to planning, including collaborative planning, which embeds international-mindedness into curricular activities and coursework.

  • Working with Diploma Programme teachers - facilitating, supporting and ensuring that DP teachers gain a full understanding of the programme and (/or changes to) their own subject’s requirements through in-house professional development and regularly scheduled meetings with teachers both individually and as a group.

  • Supporting the DP core - close collaboration with the CAS coordinator, Extended Essay supervisor and Theory of Knowledge teacher to make sure the DP is properly implemented according to the programme standards and practices. Encourages cross-curriculum collaboration to incorporate all three in each subject.

  • Articulating curricular expectations leading to the Diploma Programme - involved in reviewing the curriculum in the school years preceding the DP, and working with heads of departments to ensure that the curriculum provides adequate preparation in course content and assessment procedures, allowing students who enter the program to be set up for success.

  • General administration - responsible for managing a large number of essential administrative tasks, including but not limited

    to:


a. registering students as examination candidates

b. entering data on the IB information system (IBIS)

c. including provisional grades

d. student mark entry

e. supporting students with assessment access requirements


  • Scheduling Diploma Programme courses and the school calendar - creating and aligning with the school schedule and calendar to ensure that all courses meet DP requirements and that students gain the maximum benefit of concurrency of learning whenever possible.

  • Organising and managing assessments/examinations - assure that teachers are following the correct procedures and practices in monitoring assessment tasks. Provide invigilation training for teachers or staff and personally conduct all examinations according to the examination policies set out by the IB.

  • Designing a database for the IB community - maintain contact with alumni of the DP and develop a database of examination results, higher education experience and contact information within the context of any pertaining data protection requirements.

  • Administering the Diploma Programme budget - responsible for administering the budget allocated to the DP and ensuring that teachers have received appropriate IB-authorised training.

  • Organising and completing a five-year programme evaluation - having the prime responsibility for ensuring that all stakeholders have access to, and comprehending the expectations, standards and practices listed in the previous evaluation report. Understanding an effective review process, which the coordinator will spearhead, ensuring completion by the due date for submission to the IB.


Professional Qualifications and Experience:


  • BA or higher degree and a teacher's training degree/course

  • Three or more years of IB subject teaching experience

  • Previous experience as an IBDP (or IB related) Coordinator is a plus.

  • Familiarity with modern teaching methodologies and practice

  • Professional English proficiency
