St Marcel Académie is a private Bilingual school (English and French), strongly promoting Christian value it’s a day school located in the southern part of the D.R.Congo in the city of Lubumbashi the second largest city of the country. It offers Montessori approach for its kindergarten and is in the candidacies phase of the PYP.

The school is quite young (since 2019) with a huge potential of growing as we are in a 4 acres land in the middle of the city. We have chosen to grow gradually so we can correctly implement our approach to education. At is full capacity the school will be house for thousands of students from Pre-school to Grade 12.

Currently, we are receiving 45 kids and the capacity is expected to double by next academic year. Given that we are a new school, all appointees will play a considerable role in shaping the foundations of the school and paving a way for an exciting future. Lead the Next Stage of an Ambitious IB School:

St. Marcel Academy International School is one of Central Africa’s fastest-growing international schools and has recently achieved IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) Candidate School status.

We are now seeking an exceptional educational leader to join our Executive Leadership Team as Director of Teaching & Learning (Academic Director) while also serving as the MYP Coordinator during the programme’s early growth phase.

This is a unique opportunity to shape the academic future of a rapidly expanding international school and play a leading role in preparing the school for successful IB MYP authorization.

About the role:

Reporting directly to the Head of School, the Director of Teaching & Learning will provide strategic leadership for teaching and learning across the school while leading the implementation and development of the Middle Years Programme.

As our MYP is currently in its early stages, the successful candidate will combine the responsibilities of Academic Director and MYP Coordinator. As the programme grows, these responsibilities are expected to evolve into separate leadership positions.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the PYP Coordinator and other academic leaders to strengthen curriculum continuity, instructional excellence and whole-school improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

Whole-School Academic Leadership:

Lead the school’s teaching and learning strategy.
Build a culture of instructional excellence, inquiry and continuous improvement.
Coach and mentor teachers, Programme Coordinators and middle leaders.
Lead professional learning and instructional coaching.
Develop consistent systems for curriculum planning, assessment, reporting and quality assurance.
Ensure vertical curriculum alignment from Early Years through the MYP.
Monitor student achievement and use data to drive school improvement.
Support recruitment, induction and performance development of academic staff.

MYP Coordination:

Serve as the school’s MYP Coordinator.
Lead the implementation and development of the IB MYP.
Coordinate curriculum documentation, assessment and interdisciplinary learning.
Prepare the school for successful MYP authorization and future evaluation visits.
Ensure alignment with current IB Standards and Practices.
Build sustainable academic systems that support future programme growth.

Candidate Profile:

We are seeking an experienced international school leader who has:

Essential:

Master’s degree (or higher) in Education or Educational Leadership.
Significant leadership experience in an international school.
Extensive experience with the International Baccalaureate, particularly the MYP.
Demonstrated success in curriculum leadership and teacher development.
Strong instructional coaching and school improvement skills.
Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
A collaborative leadership style focused on developing people and systems.

Highly Desirable:

Preference will be given to candidates with:

IBEN experience (Programme Leader, Workshop Leader, School Visitor, Evaluation Leader, Consultant or Examiner).
Successful experience leading an IB authorization or evaluation.
Experience as an Academic Director, Director of Teaching & Learning, Curriculum Director, Head of Secondary or MYP Coordinator.
Experience working in developing or rapidly growing international schools.
Experience with curriculum management platforms such as Toddle, Atlas or ManageBac.
