Description of Position:


University Counsellor & Career Education Teacher (1.0 FTE)


Southpointe is seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated and collaborative teacher who shares a commitment to inquiry- and concept-based teaching and learning. Reporting to theDirector of University Counselling & Student Support Services, the University Counsellor & Career Education Teacher position will commence August 27, 2021 for the 2021-2022 school year.



Key Duties and Responsibilities:


*These may include, but are not limited to...

  • Planning and delivering a progressive programme of career exploration, academic planning, and university counselling for grades 9-12;

  • Support the application process to any university/college as well as to scholarships; Provide personalised university counselling to all students and their families from grades 9-12;

  • Plan and deliver sessions for students on topics in Career Life Education (Grade 10) and Career Life Connection (Grades 11 & 12);

  • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to provide ‘push-in’ support for students (Response to Intervention model).


All Southpointe educators provide co-curricular activities for students by either devising their own programmes or participating in the school’s Athletics offerings throughout the three different sporting seasons.



Essential Qualifications:


  • Bachelor of Education or Equivalent;

  • BC Ministry of Education: Certificate of Qualification or Independent School Teaching Certificate (or the ability to obtain a certificate);

  • Appropriate professional qualifications, training and/or experience for university counselling and career education;

  • Experience with Canadian, US and UK university admissions procedures.



Preferences


  • At least 1-2 years teaching experience;

  • Valid First Aid Certificate.
