The Lycée Français de Chicago provides its students with a rigorous bilingual education in a dynamic and welcoming multicultural community. First founded in 1995 by a small group of French and American families, the Lycée began as an international school of fewer than 150 students. Twenty years later, our community has grown dramatically to over 730 students, attracting families from around the world who share the value of an academically challenging and culturally diverse education.
Description of Position:
The Lycée Français de Chicago is currently looking for an experienced IB DP/MYP French teacher to teach French at the high school level. The IB DP/MYP French Teacher teaches standard curriculum and provides instruction to students in a rigorous educational program. They monitor the progress of individual students and adapt the pace of instruction accordingly. The teacher prepares well-defined and clear instructional objectives, outlines, and lesson plans, and identifies procedures to best implement the curriculum. In addition, the teacher develops lesson plans in accordance with the school project and strategic plan. They facilitate learning by establishing a personalized relationship with students, as well as by organizing learning resources and the classroom learning environment.
The IB DP/MYP French Teacher has a strong knowledge of their field of study and shares their enthusiasm with students. They assess and record progress and prepare students for all kinds of grades and skills requirements. Furthermore, they link students’ knowledge to earlier learning and develop ways to encourage it further. They challenge and inspire students to help them deepen their knowledge and understanding.
Planning, preparing and presenting lessons in French that cater for the needs of the whole ability range within their classes from Francophone literature to complete beginners
Motivating students with enthusiastic, imaginative presentation;
Providing individual and small-group instruction that accommodates the needs of students of varying intellectual and French linguistic abilities;
Preparing and evaluating work to facilitate positive student development;
Meeting requirements for the assessment and recording of students' development;
Communicating with parents and providing them with feedback on a student's progress during parents’ meetings;
Working with others to plan and coordinate work, working flexibly and close curriculum collaboration with colleagues;
Organizing and taking part in school events, outings and activities which may take place during weekends or in the evening;
Striving to maintain and improve professional competence;
Attending administrative meetings as needed;
Other related duties as needed.
The ideal candidate is a flexible, organized, and independent team player who is adept at multitasking.
Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred in Francophone literature and French as a Second Language or related field.
At least three years of experience teaching French in an independent school at the middle school or high school level preferred.
IB DP experience required. MYP experience and teaching certification preferred.
Appreciation of and sensitivity to cultural differences. Cross-cultural interests and/or experience in cross-cultural environments preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Fluent in French, with knowledge and understanding of the English language and American culture a plus.
Demonstrated resourcefulness in solving problems, strong organizational and time management skills, and keen attention to detail, strong work ethic, and flexibility.
This position will be open beginning next school year with a start date of August 2021.
