Middle Years (Grade 6-10) programmes. Southpointe is also an official Candidate School for the IB Diploma Programme (Grade 11-12), which will complete its innovative offering of IB from entry to graduation.

Southpointe is seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated and collaborative MYP Science Teacher who shares a commitment to inquiry and concept-based teaching and learning. Reporting to the Middle School Principal, the MYP Science Teacher position will commence August 21, 2025.
Key Duties and Responsibilities

Understand the developmental stages and unique needs of middle school students, and design instruction that supports their cognitive, social, and emotional growth;
Enjoy teaching middle school students and bring enthusiasm, patience, and a sense of humour to the classroom to build strong, positive connections;
Develop an inquiry-based and dynamic science education program;
Foster an appreciation for scientific inquiry and a curiosity-driven approach to understanding the natural world;
Demonstrate strong pedagogical practice in science instruction across multiple disciplines (e.g. biology, chemistry, physics);
Lead or support science-related extracurricular activities, such as science fairs, STEM clubs, or competitions throughout the year;
Work collaboratively with colleagues to support the development of an inquiry-based, interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning;
Foster caring, committed, and supportive relationships with students and families;
Create an environment that promotes an atmosphere of mutual respect, curiosity, and academic integrity;
Use engaging technology, including simulations and data collection tools, to enhance science instruction and student learning;
Participate in professional development training related to the IB programmes;
Design, prepare, and deliver learning experiences that facilitate authentic scientific engagement and problem-solving;
Identify and select instructional resources and methods to meet diverse student needs and learning styles;
Design and implement a range of authentic assessments, including labs and investigations, that provide timely feedback to students and clear direction to parents;
Maintain accurate, ongoing, and complete records of student progress for the purposes of teaching, learning, and reporting;
Prepare reports, conduct parent-teacher conferences, and communicate with parents on an ongoing basis to foster open and supportive relationships;
Model a strong work ethic, high standards of commitment, and maintain excellent professionalism in all interactions with colleagues, students, and parents;
Participate in community-building events, both in and out of school hours.
Teachers at Southpointe Academy are expected to actively support the school’s co-curricular program by leading a club or coaching a team for at least two terms each year. Opportunities include coaching in athletics such as basketball, volleyball, soccer, track and field, or badminton or running student clubs aligned with academic interests, leadership, service, or the arts. This involvement supports student engagement beyond the classroom and contributes to the school’s vibrant learning community.
Essential Qualifications
Bachelor of Education or Equivalent;
BC Ministry of Education: Certificate of Qualification or Independent School Teaching Certificate.
Undergraduate or graduate level training in physical education.
Preferred Qualifications
IB MYP and/or DP training or teaching experience;
At least 1-2 years teaching experience;
A bachelor's degree in Design, Technology, Education, or a related field.
Valid First Aid Certificate
Salary
Southpointe's teacher salary grid is currently 5.5% above the Delta public school salary grid at all levels of the grid and will further increase to 6% above the Delta public school grid for the 2025-2026 school year;
The current annual salary range for a full-time teaching position at Southpointe Academy during the 2025-2026 school year is from $68,442 to $116,091 based on placement on the approved teacher salary grid;
Placement on the approved teacher salary grid is based on level of qualifications and duration of full-time teaching experience.
