Description of Position:
The Magellan International School (Colegio Internacional Magallanes), in Austin, Texas, is seeking a Physical Education Teacher for the Primary School (Kinder - 5th Grades) and Secondary School (6th - 9th Grades). This individual will instruct Physical Education (PE) activities, and will provide PE information and serve as a resource to others. This position will achieve defined objectives by planning, evaluating, developing, implementing and maintaining services in compliance with established guidelines.
Essential Functions:
Designs, plans, and implements physical education lessons based on elements of the IB Primary Years Programme and the IB Middle Years Programme
Measures the essential elements of the Primary Years Programme and Middle Years Programme using a range of assessment strategies
Ensures that the physical education environment is clean, safe and constructive for all students
Works collaboratively with the other Physical Education Teachers
Effectively manages students' behavior in class
Assists in planning the annual Field Day across all school levels
Essential Functions As They Relate To:
Students:
Promote high standards and expectations for all students for academic performance and responsibility for behavior.
Improve student performance and results.
Serve as a role model for students, dressing professionally, demonstrating the importance and relevance of learning, accepting responsibility, and demonstrating pride in the education profession.
Ensure that the instructional programs engage the learner in tasks that require analytical and critical thinking, problem solving, and creativity.
Address the range of skills and developmental needs found in the classroom
Encourage students to define individual goals.
Maintain a safe and creative environment for their students.
Faculty:
Supports teachers and co-workers
Attends all staff/ faculty meetings
Meets with the Primary Years Programme Coordinator and Middle Years Programme Coordinator to review curriculum plans and activities and evaluate program's effectiveness
Administration
Maintains records on each child's progress and development
Keeps up-to-date records of attendance, curriculum, assessment tasks in Managebac
Carries out supervision at break times, lunch times, and other times as required
Prepares documentation for IB external assessment
Parents:
Communicate professionally and effectively to parents about student progress.
Work with Room Parents in planning and participating activities.
Conduct individual parent conferences at the end of each term.
Establish a positive relationship with each student's family.
Make presentations to parents as needed.
Attend parent meetings when required.
Communicate and collaborate with parents of high needs students.
Internal Community
Participates in Fundraising and Marketing efforts to support the growth of our non-profit, independent school
External Community:
Curate local community offerings and communicate opportunities to the school community.
Promote the Magellan International School mission.
Create and maintain connections with relevant community resources.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree (Degree in Kinesiology or Sports Management preferred)
Experience and/or training in IB curriculum
Ability to teach diverse students with varied athletic interests and different physical abilities
Dedication to healthy lifestyles, with an understanding of physiology, nutrition and metabolism
A minimum of three years' experience in working with elementary and/or preschool students
Experience with authentic assessment practices
Demonstrate experience as an effective coach
Demonstrate excellent leadership and organizational skills
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of curriculum development and program evaluation, child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment
Ability to create a stimulating classroom environment
Ability to utilize the local context and environment to enhance learning
Ability to work with parents
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience or training in the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (IB PYP).
Experience working with project based learning.

Work Environment:
This job operates in a classroom environment, and outdoors. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This role requires the ability to interact with multiple children at a time, ability to lift children and heavy objects on a routine basis (up to 40 lbs) and have the ability to bend and sit on the floor throughout the day.
Travel:
This position will require the ability to travel between two campuses. Some out-of-area travel may be expected with field trips, but is not common.

Salary for each position is based on an individual’s teaching experience.
