Brief Description of Position:


Our fast-growing international bilingual school located in Hoboken, NJ is looking for a Lead Mandarin Teacher for its full immersion class. The Lead Teacher is responsible for planning and developing lessons reflecting best practices, providing support, collaborating with colleagues and supervisors. They have one or two assistants in the class. This is an opportunity for a qualified Mandarin speaker to get familiar with the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum framework, as well as to be located near the New York City area.


Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement clear, well-thought-out lesson plans that connect in-class learning to concepts and generate enthusiasm and academic excellence in the classroom.

  • Use a variety of developmentally appropriate instructional and assessment methods to meet the needs of all young learners. Perform young child care, feeding and soothing of very young children depending on age group served.

  • Monitor the academic, personal, emotional, and social progress of students.

  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.

  • Communicate in a timely, clear, and effective manner with students, parents, and colleagues, informally and formally.

  • Prepare adequately for responsibilities to be assumed when absent. Fulfill regular administrative tasks, such as timely completion and correction of attendance, and lesson planning.

  • Actively seek opportunities for professional growth.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Contribute to Tessa’s mission and values.

  • Contribute to a climate of respect and understanding amongst faculty and staff, students, and parents.

Requirements

  • Native speaker of Mandarin or fully bilingual

  • Authorized to work in the United States or eligible for a J-1 teaching visa (bachelor’s degree + minimum of 2 years recent teaching experience)

  • Bachelor and Masters in Education

  • Previous teaching experience of 2-3 years preferable in teaching the target language acquisition to very young students

  • Strong communication skills, humility, and empathy

  • Love of very young children

  • Positive attitude

  • Previous experience at an international school and/or cultural fluency derived from international experience is a plus

  • Experience with the IB PYP preferred
