The Junior School (JK - Grade 6) offers its 270 students the IB Primary Years Program (PYP), which is filled with engaging opportunities, including a rich, inquiry-based innovation program with emphasis on STEAM, Creativity and Taking Action (in and from students' learning).
Description of Position:
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team who reports to the Deputy Principal, the Head of Junior School is responsible for the academic, operational and administrative leadership of the Junior School, as well as curriculum and faculty leadership. With a focus both on student and faculty experience, the Head creates an enriching, caring, inclusive and supportive culture grounded in social-emotional learning and practices.
In collaboration with school leaders, the Head ensures Branksome’s curricular and co curricular programs exceed expectations while reflecting Branksome’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. The Head will also be in close contact with the Branksome Hall Parents’ Association to ensure open and effective communication with the parent community. With a collaborative and supportive style, the Head works with a range of colleagues to plan, implement and manage Junior School and school-wide initiatives and programs.
The successful candidate will have a passion for, and commitment to, primary and junior years’ education. A successful and progressive tenure and leadership experience in an academic environment has provided you with an in-depth understanding of the operations of a school and of school life. Candidates must hold a Bachelor of Education degree, or equivalent, and either a graduate level degree or the completion of Levels 1 and 2 of the Ontario Principal Qualifications. An Ontario Teacher’s Certificate is
preferred. Experience with the International Baccalaureate program, and specifically the Primary Years Program, is an asset. A high level of emotional intelligence will be demonstrable through your leadership approach and your ability to inspire, mentor and develop a collaborative, collegial and high-performing team. Exceptional communication, interpersonal and partnership development skills are required, as is the ability to problem-solve and make sound decisions in a fast-paced and innovative environment.
