FRENCH & SPANISH SECONDARY TEACHER - BRAZIL

Teacher responsibilities:


The College has high expectations for the values of the teaching staff who are expected to behave in a

responsible and ethical way.


1. All Teachers are expected to work 200 calendar days as established by the MEC

2. To teach in accordance with the College and departmental policies (outlined in the Section or subject

Department Handbook).

3. To become familiar and knowledgeable with the requirements and expectations of the National

Curriculum of Brazil and The United Kingdom, the I.G.C.S.E. and the International Baccalaureate

Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Programmes.

4. To plan, prepare, implement and effectively assess differentiated lessons, enabling high standards of

learning, in a proactive manner within departmental guidelines, taking account of varying levels of

ability. To contribute to the production of schemes of work.

5. To keep good order and maintain appropriate discipline during lessons, around the school and out of

school with all pupils.

6. To maintain professional, appropriate working relationships with students and other members of staff

and parents.

7. To regularly set and mark classwork and homework according to sections, departmental and College

policies and appropriate to the needs and abilities of the students.

8. To keep and make available for inspection, detailed, accurate records of individual students’

performance and progress as required by section, departmental, and College policies.

9. To keep up to date lesson attendance and absence records for all pupils in each class and for all

lessons.

10. To liaise with the Head of Section, Department, Tutors, or Teachers and the ISP Coordinator, keeping

them informed of individual students’ problems and successes.

11. To keep students and their parents and/or guardians informed of their child’s progress by

professionally completing grade reports, end of term reports, attending Parents’ Consultation

Meetings, and at other occasions that the teacher may deem necessary in consultation with the Head of

Section. This is important to allow for open communication and adequate individual progress.

12. To attend and contribute positively to all relevant meetings (departmental, Early Years, Primary

school, Secondary school and whole College).

13. To attend and participate in school events, such as class/department trips which could be on

Saturdays or Sundays and are on the school calendar as part of teachers working days established by

the MEC. These days are included in your monthly payment and are not considered extra hours. When a

trip has an overnight stay these will be paid separately.

14. To participate constructively in the appraisal process, any In-service Training (departmental, Early

Years, Primary school, Secondary school and whole College), and attend professional courses when

appropriate.

15. To be responsible for supervising the careful use and maintenance of all areas of teaching, equipment

and teaching materials allocated for teachers and pupils.

16. To perform invigilation duties and cover absences of colleagues when required by the corresponding

Head of Department, Head of Section, or College Principal.

17. To perform break/lunchtime and lunchroom duties as per duty roster.

18. To offer at least one extra-curricular activity a week.

19. To help the Head of Section and or Head of Department carry out additional duties that might

reasonably be asked as a fair share of the overall departmental workload.

20. To maintain professional standards and be an effective role model in attendance and punctuality,

appearance, conduct, the use of language, meeting deadlines and the general fulfilment of

responsibilities.

21. To carry out additional duties, participate and conduct activities as the College Principal may

reasonably direct from time to time.

22. To keep and file up-to- date copies of all of the College’s required documents including daily, weekly,

monthly & yearly plannings, (refer to Section Handbook).

23. To work collaboratively with other teachers to improve the standards of teaching and learning.

24. To take responsibility for the pastoral, academic and social welfare of your allocated teaching group,

class group or tutor group within the Class/Tutor Programme. (see duties and responsibilities of a Class

Teacher/Tutor)

25. To take responsibility for pastoral care and social welfare of all St. Francis College Pupils.

26. To supervise students when they are involved in authorised school activities within and outside the

school premises.

27. To regularly check the condition of the teaching and learning environment and promptly report the

need for maintenance, replacement and/or any safety issues.

28. Be entitled to 1 hour lunch break as determined on the individual timetable.

29. Adhere to the dress code.

30. Use school internet only for professional matters.

31. Not invite or accept invitations from pupils to Facebook or similar sites ie: Google, Instagram and

Twitter.

32. To clock in and clock out on time.

33. It is against school rules to smoke in any part of the school grounds, including outdoors, the parking lot.

34. Teachers should inform the College Principal of their intent on leaving at the end of the scholastic

year, by October of the previous year.


Working Hours:


  • Heads of Section, Heads of Department, Coordinators or Teachers with a Responsibility: 7:45 to 17:00

  • Full time Primary teaching staff: 7:45 to 15:45 plus staff meeting 3 times a month from 16:00-18:00.

  • Full time Secondary teaching staff 7:55 - 15:55 plus staff meeting 3 times a month from 16:00-18:00.

  • Part time teaching staff: see attached timetable.


This job description will be reviewed from time to time usually at the end of the academic year

or earlier if necessary. You are entitled to request a review at any time. In addition, it may be

amended at any time after consultation with you.
