Description of Position:
PYP EAL Teacher (Upper PYP) - part-time, one year contract 2021-2022
International School of Hellerup is looking to employ a positive, energetic and well-organized EAL teacher to join our school in the PYP (Pre-K -5th grade).
The EAL teacher will be part of a small team that provides language support to students within the PYP.
The role is 30-40% and is for a one year contract. Only candidates from Denmark or Southern Sweden should apply.
The successful candidate will:
Have a high fluency in written and spoken English
Demonstrate strong collaborative and interpersonal skills
Have relevant teaching qualifications (including Learning Support/Special Needs education) and proven teaching experience, preferably in an IB school
Have knowledge and/or experience of, and a commitment to, the educational philosophies of the International Baccalaureate, specifically the Primary Years Programme
Design, deliver and evaluate lessons which stimulate and motivate student learning
Work and plan in collaboration within curricular teams
Be caring and compassionate
Enjoy teaching and working in an internationally minded environment
Planning and teaching EAL lessons to a group of mixed age and ability learners (some with little to no English).
Conducting consistent reading and writing assessments to track EAL learners’ progress.
Attending some planning sessions with Inclusion and Class teachers to contribute to whole class and EAL learners’ success lesson planning.
Collaborating with other Inclusion and Class teachers to ensure that EAL teaching is aligned with the IB and class learning to facilitate interconnected rigorous learning.
Initiating and preparing differentiated EAL materials for application in Unit of Inquiry, Maths, Language Arts and other related subjects.
Supporting EAL learners in classes such as Unit work and Language Arts.
Meeting with EAL learners’ parents to discuss progress and recommend support at home
Attending related Professional Development sessions.
Share innovative and successful ideas with Class Teachers to support and teach EAL learners in class.
Develop learner focused relationships to ensure that the EAL learners feel safe, respected and are not afraid of asking for help and making mistakes.
Create and design unit plans that address to various EAL learning needs (reading, writing, speaking, etc)
Join PYP program meetings weekly and collaborate with class teachers to support inclusion of EAL students
