Description of Position:

PYP EAL Teacher (Upper PYP) - part-time, one year contract 2021-2022

International School of Hellerup is looking to employ a positive, energetic and well-organized EAL teacher to join our school in the PYP (Pre-K -5th grade).

The EAL teacher will be part of a small team that provides language support to students within the PYP.

The role is 30-40% and is for a one year contract. Only candidates from Denmark or Southern Sweden should apply.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a high fluency in written and spoken English

  • Demonstrate strong collaborative and interpersonal skills

  • Have relevant teaching qualifications (including Learning Support/Special Needs education) and proven teaching experience, preferably in an IB school

  • Have knowledge and/or experience of, and a commitment to, the educational philosophies of the International Baccalaureate, specifically the Primary Years Programme

  • Design, deliver and evaluate lessons which stimulate and motivate student learning

  • Work and plan in collaboration within curricular teams

  • Be caring and compassionate

  • Enjoy teaching and working in an internationally minded environment

General responsibilities:

  • Planning and teaching EAL lessons to a group of mixed age and ability learners (some with little to no English).

  • Conducting consistent reading and writing assessments to track EAL learners’ progress.

  • Attending some planning sessions with Inclusion and Class teachers to contribute to whole class and EAL learners’ success lesson planning.

  • Collaborating with other Inclusion and Class teachers to ensure that EAL teaching is aligned with the IB and class learning to facilitate interconnected rigorous learning.

  • Initiating and preparing differentiated EAL materials for application in Unit of Inquiry, Maths, Language Arts and other related subjects.

  • Supporting EAL learners in classes such as Unit work and Language Arts.

  • Meeting with EAL learners’ parents to discuss progress and recommend support at home

  • Attending related Professional Development sessions.

  • Share innovative and successful ideas with Class Teachers to support and teach EAL learners in class.

  • Develop learner focused relationships to ensure that the EAL learners feel safe, respected and are not afraid of asking for help and making mistakes.

  • Create and design unit plans that address to various EAL learning needs (reading, writing, speaking, etc)

  • Join PYP program meetings weekly and collaborate with class teachers to support inclusion of EAL students
