JOB PURPOSE:


Reporting to the Associate Head, External Relations, the Director of Admissions leads and manages admissions and enrollment spanning Kindergarten through Grade 12, while keeping all aspects of the admissions program in line with The York School’s strategic plan, mission, and core values. The Director is focused on continuing to strengthen the School’s position in both the national and GTA markets.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Co-create, oversee and implement the School’s admissions and enrollment strategy

  • Oversee the development of events and activities promoting the School, including open houses, recruitment fairs, in-person customized tours, information sessions, activity and evaluation days, acceptance packages and experiences, family and student onboarding, including managing and being the principal contact for the Parent Ambassador Program.

  • Work closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications to develop and implement a Strategic Marketing program for admissions and enrollment

  • Lead and evaluate the admissions, onboarding, retention, and withdrawal processes with input from the Leadership Team and various stakeholders across the School

  • Participate in decision-making as a key member of the School’s Admissions Committee

  • Analyze admissions and enrollment program data for trends and indicators of effectiveness; prepare reports and create presentations for the School’s Leadership Team and Board of Directors; each summer, correlate enrollment program data with student success indicators to understand how aligned each year’s new cohort of students is to the academic standards and values of the school

  • Develop and implement program modifications based on program analyses, as described above

  • Supervise direct reports and provide coaching, feedback, growth opportunities including professional development, and performance management

  • Build effective working relationships with faculty members and staff to help support the admissions and enrolment program at key moments during the recruitment cycle

  • Participate in admissions and enrollment personalized communications, including communication of offers, courtesy calls to unsuccessful applicant families and, as needed, family exit interviews

  • Participate in family and student interviews, gathering relevant information to determine suitability for admission

  • Cultivate relationships with feeder-schools, placement agencies, community organizations in target markets, and key stakeholders in the independent school ecosystem


QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • University degree in a related field or Bachelor of Education

  • Experience in admissions and enrolment management is a strong asset

  • 8+ years in a management role, supervising and coaching direct reports

  • Possesses highly developed leadership skills and is an inclusive leader adept at creating a positive environment and coaching employees

  • Excellent multi-tasker who can think both strategically and tactically; execution and performance oriented

  • Excellent written, presentation, verbal and interpersonal skills, with an ability to build relationships with prospective students and families, faculty members and staff

  • Excels in navigating difficult conversations and can manage complex and/or difficult issues or conflicts in a calm and solutions-oriented manner

  • Has good financial acuity and budget management skills

  • Proficient in required software programs (Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Blackbaud) and experience with databases

  • Displays a high degree of confidentiality, discretion and tact when handling sensitive information
