Description of Position:

The post-holder will assist the Director of School in managing the School and assume responsibility for any professional duty of the Director as delegated. The Deputy Head is responsible to the Director for the academic management of the School and ensuring the teaching and learning component of the programmes are delivered to the highest standards.


  • Guides, motivates and assists the teaching team

  • Monitors the academic activities of the different departments

  • Establishes appropriate contacts for supplying and receiving information from the teaching teams

  • Coordinates the framework of pedagogical functions with the program coordinators

  • Serves as a link between the different departments in order to promote interdisciplinary cooperation

  • Works closely with the Department coordinators in developing schemes of work, policy documents and development plans, and ensure that relevant planning and evaluations are completed

  • Develops activities, schedules, class distribution, examinations

  • Monitors compliance with activities and schedules by students and teachers at all levels under the authority of head of studies

  • Calls periodic meetings with the coordinators, mentors, and teachers

  • Coordinates and supports the operations of the departments and assumes responsibility for their proper functioning

  • Supervises the evaluations and the reports so that they may be executed flawlessly

  • Assumes responsibility for developing all programming

  • Determines the educational content that should be conveyed to the students throughout the school years

  • Specifies the minimum level that the students must achieve, diversifies levels in accordance with different abilities of the students

  • Coordinates teaching methodology

  • Prepares the subject/teacher distribution of the school, the general and individual timetables of the classes

  • Organizes the school duties.

  • Prepares the substitution of the absent teachers.

  • Introduces and assists new members of the teaching staff. Ensures regular class observations and constructive feedback take place, designs training sessions and provides information and advice on external training for staff.

  • Provides regular training sessions for teaching staff.

Professional Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

  • BA or higher degree and a teacher's training degree/course preferably in English

  • A minimum of five years of teaching experience in a school

  • Leadership experience in a similar position

  • An effective and successful teacher with firm discipline, high personal standards and high expectations of students

  • Familiarity with innovative teaching methodologies and practices

  • A sound level of competence in ICT

  • An ambitious person with great energy and clear leadership potential

  • A team player with sound interpersonal skills and sensitivity

  • Excellent communicator (written and verbal) with parents, pupils and colleagues

  • High levels of energy and commitment
