The Deputy Head of Primary / Elementary School will have a demonstrable understanding of the needs of students in their elementary years of schooling. Capacity and character that forges professional ties with the Head of Elementary to effectively initiate, maintain and implement strategies and actions based on that relationship. Identify and promote excellence in the provision of our Primary Years Programme (PYP) curriculum, accompanied by an expansive co-curricular offering. An understanding of the International Baccalaureate and ability to transition students through the elementary years and the PYP would be an advantage.
Assist the Head of Elementary with strategic planning and promotion of AI in relation to Elementary aged education.
Foster and develop academic excellence in the Elementary School.
Develop, implement and evaluate the welfare/discipline program for students.
Support the Head of Elementary in maintaining appropriate communication with parents of Elementary School students who have concerns in any areas of the School’s operation.
Evaluate and implement Elementary School policies, relevant to the position.
Manage staff performance in the Elementary School, including the introduction of a teacher performance evaluation and development process, in consultation with the Head of Elementary.
Contribute to the construction of an annual staff development plan relative to the needs of PYP which is informed by the Elementary School Improvement Plan.
Show significant leadership in the development and evaluation of curriculum policy within the Elementary School to maintain consistency across the three sub-schools.
Alongside the Head of Elementary ensure high quality assessment recording and reporting procedures.
Form a part of the interview, enrolment and induction process of new students.
Offer views on the selection of the Elementary School student leadership team and foster the students’ leadership skills.
Be a member of the school operations team and contribute to whole school planning for major events such as Awards Presentation Day, Foundation Day, etc.
Participate in recruitment of new staff for the Elementary school.
Form a part of the induction of new Elementary School staff.
Contribute to the weekly school Newsletter on Elementary School issues.
Aid in the creation of budgets pertaining to the Elementary School.
Be a representative of the Elementary School on the Academic Executive Committee.
Ensure that all resources (e.g. staffing, equipment, etc.) are effectively and efficiently deployed.
Alongside the Head of Elementary assist the Head of Secondary School to ensure a smooth transition for Year 5 students into Year 6.
In conjunction with the operations staff ensure the safety and security of aspects of the Elementary School.
Contribute to an annual Elementary School Improvement Plan consistent with the School’s Strategic Plan.
Other duties as determined in consultation with the Principal, or such persons as the Head of School may designate.
A capacity to provide high quality educational leadership in concert with the Head of Elementary
Exemplary teaching and learning skills and experience that achieve an outstanding level of student learning.
Experience of and the ability to lead the PYP programme through the Elementary Years
A demonstrated capacity to professionally align with the Head of Elementary to create, maintain and elevate effective teams.
Develop cooperative and constructive professional relationships that enhance quality teaching and learning practices.
Successfully complement the Head of Elementary’s planning to initiate and implement programs in response to emerging educational needs and priorities.
Actively evaluate and critical reflect upon professional practice that supports the Head of Elementary’s enhancement of teachers’ involvement in professional development.
High levels of communication and interpersonal skills when relating to students, colleagues, parents and the broader community.
Highly attuned educational perspective.
An appreciation, understanding and demonstrated international perspective.
Leadership and management within the context of collaborative decision making.
Some teaching will be involved.
Experience and capacity to fulfil the core responsibilities of the position: lead.
Previous experience in a senior leadership position at a large elementary school
Experience in an international school
Minimum of three years in a similar leadership position
