Description of School:
Founded in 1962, and based on Christian values, the Anglican International School fosters understanding and reconciliation, welcoming students of all faiths or none. The school currently have 310 students from 50 different countries with a staff of 100.
The school hosts a wide and varied program of study for all students aged 2–18, which is aimed at enabling each student to fulfill their potential academically and socially.
As an IB World School (MYP/DP) and a MSA (Middle States Association – USA) School. Children aged 5 -11 are able join the AISJ family in the Primary School where the curriculum is based on the UK curriculum.
Approximately 75% of our student body comes from an international background, with the remaining 25% comprising local Jewish, Muslim and Christian students. AISJ is where the world goes to school.
Description of Position:
The Anglican International School, Jerusalem (AISJ) is seeking to appoint a conscientious, caring and enthusiastic Whole School Counselor, to help with students (5-18) with personal, emotional health and social issues. AISJ is a well-established and progressive International school in the heart of Jerusalem, catering for students from the International and local communities.
Responsible to the Director, working closely with Heads of School
The successful applicants will meet the following criteria:
Be a committed Christian
Master's in school counseling, social work, mental health counseling or equivalent qualification preferred.
Have an understanding and experience of working with students from a diverse range of backgrounds
Be fluent in English (Hebrew and Arabic an added advantage)
Have an ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, and parents in a multicultural and frequently demanding environment, with sensitivity to local cultural needs.
Be enthusiastic about implementing a social –emotional learning curriculum.
AISJ will expect the applicant to commit to a minimum of two years, as per local working visa requirements, with a yearly renewable contract in the first instance. Salary rates are commensurate with Israeli pay-scales.
Primary Purpose of the Job:
To provide a high quality counselling service to students experiencing a wide range of emotional problems
To provide support, guidance and advice to parents, carers and teaching staff
To promote and safeguard the welfare of pupils
To be responsible for the confidential counseling services to students as required
To provide group and individual counseling on a short term basis
To liaise with staff concerning on going pastoral care for students
To be responsible for advice and support for staff
To be responsible for maintaining appropriate and confidential records
To liaise with the Designated Safeguarding Leader on a frequent basis
To establish and maintain a network of appropriate professionals for mental health referrals
To provide regular information of numbers of students, age range and types of problems to the Senior Management Team
To have a thorough knowledge of the Mental Health provision locally and nationally
To identify students at risk for negative emotional, behavioral and academic outcomes
To be aware of the responsibility for the personal health and safety of others who may be affected by your actions
To take responsibility for personal professional development, keeping up to date with research and developments which may lead to improvements in the counseling service provided
To arrange and deliver relevant training for staff as and when needs are identified.
Participate in the implementation of a social-emotional learning curriculum
To participate in regular meetings with the Inclusion Department
Work with the Inclusion Department to identify and support students with learning support needs
Attend regular assemblies and staff meetings
