Albert Einstein Academies is a public charter elementary and middle school. The school philosophy follows the guidelines of the International Baccalaureate PYP and MYP and was awarded IB accreditation in 2007 for elementary school and in 2009 for middle school.

Einstein Academies offers their students a dual German/English immersion and German foreign language program. In grades Kindergarten to five, 50 percent of the total instruction time is taught in German. In grades six to eight, students receive German or Spanish foreign language instruction.

Description of Position:

The PYP IB coordinator and administrative support position clearly communicates the vision and goals of the IB PYP organization to staff and parents, shares in the development and implementation of the IB PYP curriculum and assessment, coordinates and delivers ongoing professional development through horizontal and vertical articulation and acts as pedagogical support for the PYP campus.

Essential Functions:

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:


  • Provides leadership in the development, implementation and assessment of the IB instructional program as well as the evaluation of the program

  • Supports teachers in implementing the PYP by providing guidance in IB developments

  • Facilitates IB visits to the school

  • Informs the Board of Trustees, administration and parent community regularly of IB updates

  • Acts as the liaison between the school and the International Baccalaureate

  • Promotes service learning across the continuum: taking action and serving our communities.

Professional Development

  • Collaborates weekly with the principal to plan professional development

  • Coordinates and/or conducts professional development for staff

  • Identifies IB professional development needs and opportunities, ensuring staff are made aware of IB workshop and conference opportunities

  • Keeps a record of IB professional development attended and school visits

Staff Support

  • Orientates new staff members to the teaching environment at AEA, especially as it relates to IB and general practices and norms

  • Assists teachers/teams in curriculum writing, planning, teaching, assessment, reflection and revision via systematic, regular meetings

  • Creates and maintains systems for the monitoring of PYP assessment Provides release time for teachers for collaboration and growth Plans off-site opportunities at other schools to support PYP and German language teaching

Student support:

  • Coordinates assemblies

  • Oversees the supervision of students to promote student behavior that is supportive of teachers and to ensure safety

  • Assists students in planning and participating in service learning Helps guide students through conflict resolution

School-community relations and communications:

  • Acts in a supportive role with the Principal in work with parents, teachers, and the community to promote the effective flow of communication with regards to the PYP

  • Coordinates all school celebrations/assemblies ie.) Live Music Month, World Water Day, Camino Seguro/Safe Passage, Annual World Schools Celebration Promotes the programs to new parents and community members, conducts tours

  • Assists in the coordination of monthly Parent Universities across the PYP/MYP


  • Valid California multiple subject teaching credential

  • At least three years of experience as an IB teacher

  • Admin credential preferred or in progress

  • Current TB clearance and CPR certificate

  • Fingerprints
