Position Description:


The Head of High School Placement Office/High School Placement Counsellor is responsible for the execution of a high school counselling program designed to help each student gain admission to high schools in China or abroad that fit their intellectual and personal abilities, interests, and aspirations.


In educating, counselling, guiding, and supporting students and their parents in the high school search and application processes, this person works knowledgeably, professionally, and ethically; aligns his/her work with the educational mission and values of the school; and advocates tirelessly for the best interests of the students he/she serves.  He/She is responsible for management of the High School Placement Office, training of the high school counselling team, and any additional duties as assigned by the Principals. 


Job Responsibilities:


Individualized Program Design:


  • Assess students’ academic ability, English skills, interests and aspirations

  • Interact closely with students to become familiar with their personalities and outside interests

  • Consult with parents ascertain their short- and long-term goals for their child

  • Identify best fit schools for each student and counsel parents and students accordingly

  • Work with the Middle School academic team to develop individualized action plans to meet the goals of students and parents

  • Guide and motivate students in undertaking the action plans

  • Assist students in all aspects of the high school application process, including testing, essay writing, interview preparation, etc.

  • Assist parents in arranging high school visits and admission interviews

  • Monitor closely the progress and timeline of each student’s application

  • Organize small-group visits to high schools by parents and students, and accompany them as required


Liaison with Overseas High Schools:


  • Build strong relationships with overseas and Chinese high schools sharing our educational goals and standards

  • Make routine visits to high schools overseas and in China to strengthen relationships, to promote the school and our students

  • Arrange for High School Admissions Officers to visit the school either individually or as part of groups touring China

  • Remain informed of current events and trends in high school admissions in China and abroad


Marketing Activities:


  • Maintain close communication with alumni attending high school overseas and in China, track their successes and challenges and communicated those to the Principals

  • Share success stories in writing with the Marketing Department

  • Develop a guide book to high schools to assist parents and students in understanding the high school admissions process


Other Responsibilities:


  • Manage the High School Placement Office effectively and efficiently

  • Develop and train the High School Placement team to ensure consistent approaches and messaging




  • Native English speaker, proficiency in Mandarin a huge plus

  • Excellent understanding of UK/North American/Australian/New Zealand and European education systems

  • Wide network of contacts throughout boarding and day high schools in the US and Canada

  • More than 10 years related experience

  • Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong initiative

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and flexibility

  • Demonstrated leadership skills

  • Recently retired day and boarding high school admission officers encourage to apply


Salary is commensurate with experience.  Benefits package includes a monthly housing allowance, a one-time settling in allowance, and an annual round-trip international air ticket to home of record.  Worldwide Medical Health Insurance is included.  School will sponsor a “Z” visa for successful international candidates.
